Fernwood Cardigan / Hip Shaping

I reached the hip shaping on my Fernwood Cardigan. Although my stitch gauge matches the pattern exactly, my row gauge is just the slightest bit off (12.5 rows over 4 inches instead of 12). To this point my lengths have matched those in the pattern, both at the yoke depth and v-neck depth. However my row gauge has finally caught up to me and I'm just under an inch short to begin my hip increases.

I've tried the cardigan on and it's resting at my natural waist. The hip increases should be placed below the waist line so I'll need to work an additional full repeat of the Double Moss stitch (4 rows) before working this increase row. One thing to keep in mind when trying on during knitting is that the Fernwood Cardigan has a wide button-band that is added after the body is knit. This contributes an additional 2.5" along the neckline (back neck & top of sleeve), during fitting be sure the neckline is sitting roughly this distance away from your neck.

Below is a photograph of the hip increases — each increase enclosed within a locking stitch marker. By pairing increases side by side the Double Moss stitch remains uninterrupted.

I hope you've found this post helpful.
